  Here are the simple calculation to be made when carrying out a solar system calculations in our homes and offices.

# There are three major components needed for solar installation

1. Inverter
2. Battery
3. Solar panel

INVERTER: inverter is an electronic device that helps to charge our battery and it’s major work is to convert direct current (DC) to alternating current (AC) which will suite our electrical appliances in our homes and office’s.

BATTERY: Battery is the one of the major things that make solar system of electricity more authentic and unique, whose work is to store and discharge the energy gotten from the sun through the solar panel and inverter.

SOLAR PANEL: solar panel are the new system of generating electricity by the help of sun light which can power our home and office appliances.

## STEPS TO BE USED WHEN DOING SOLAR SYSTEM CALCULATION FOR HOME

For the home electrical load calculation  working with the following:

4 LED LIGHTS = 4 * 25 =100W OF LAMP

2 FAN.             =  2*80  = 160W OF CEILING FAN

1 TUBE LIGHT = 1*40 = 40W OF FLUORESCENT LIGHT

1 LED TV = 1*50          = 50W OF TV.

INVERTER SELECTION

Then consider  = 500w

### But for this lesson my recommendation is 700-1000w

Battery DC volt 12v

DC current required :

P = V*I

I = P/V

350/12

Hence:350w AC load to DC current required is I = 29.17 or approximately 30A

Battery size selection in AH

formula = W*H/V

where : W = total load 350w

H = backup time in hours 8hrs

V = battery voltage 12v

350*8/12 = 233AH

BATTERY STANDARD = 250AH

So therefore :BATTERY SELECTION =250AH

#### BATTERY CHARGING CURRENT

We will calculate current for 250AH battery. As we know that charging current should be 10% of the AH rating of the battery.

Therefore, charging current for 250AH.

Battery = 250*10% = 25A

SOLAR PLATES CURRENT = BATTERY CHARGING CURRENT + HOME LOAD CURRENT. = 25+30=55A

SOLAR PLATES POWER :

Formula = V*I =12*55=660W

numbers of solar plates to use?

340w home load AC = 660w solar plate required (DC). The 660w solar panel is not on the market. Note: these are the wattage of solar in the markets :125w, 180w, 375w, and 440w.

Numbers of solar plates = Total panel watts / single panel watts.

=660/180 = 3.66 approximately 4.

Numbers solar plates = 4 panels ( 4* 180w)
